Alcoholism Self-Test

There are many people who refuse to admit they have a drinking problem. How many times have you said, "I'll only have a couple of drinks" or
"I can stop anytime I want."
One thing is for sure, no one can diagnose if you are an alcoholic.

Some people might think you have a drinking problem, but only you know how much you drink and if you are able to stop. If you think you might possibility have a problem, an alcoholism self-test might be something for you to try.

Here are a few sample questions:

  1. How often do you have six or more drinks on one occasion?

  2. How often during the last year have you found that you were not able to stop drinking once you had started?

  3. Has a relative or friend or a doctor or other health worker been concerned about your drinking or suggested you cut down?

  4. How often during the last year have you been unable to remember what happened the night before because you had been drinking?

  5. Have you or someone else been injured as a result of your drinking?
Most social drinkers do not drink daily, and usually have no more than 1 or 2 drinks a week. If you find that you are drinking more than that, you might want to take a serious look at your drinking habits and patterns.

At the bottom of this Ezine we have an Alcoholism Self-Test.

This Self-test could help identify if there might be a problem, and if there is, it could motivate you to seek help and take steps to change.

Ask yourself...

Is drinking alcohol harming my health now, or will it be harmful to me later in life? Should I stop drinking alcohol? Am I a binge drinker? Most adults who drink alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, or liquor) consume safe and healthy amounts. For others, unsafe drinking patterns increase their risk for injury, illness or future alcohol problems.

For 1 in 13 American adults, alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence (alcoholism) causes substantial harm to their health and disruption in their lives and in the lives of their family.

Once you answer the questions, you will be scored and the higher your score, the more dependent on alcohol you are. These tests will never be able to diagnose you as being an alcoholic but rather what your dependency on alcohol is.

Alcoholics tend to have a high dependency on alcohol and if your results show that you have a high dependence, then it might be time to consider going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting or seek help from an addictions counselor.

If you consume alcoholic beverages, it's important to know whether your drinking patterns are safe, risky or harmful.

Answering these questions will take only a few minutes, and will generate personalized results based on your age, gender and drinking patterns. Your responses will be completely confidential and anonymous.
